Christmastime in Verona

English
Christmas Verona
The most wonderful time of the year, and in Verona, there is something to do throughout the Christmas and New Year season.

Enjoy a different Christmas shopping experience in the Christmas Markets. The streets and Piazza’s, decorated with trees and lights play host to stalls with traditional toys and food, making it an ideal place to buy traditional Christmas gifts or something unusual for the table on Christmas day. If the weather is snowy, stop off at a stall for a steaming cup of hot chocolate, or maybe a glass of mulled wine, to help you get into the spirit and defrost those icy fingers.

What’s On:

Verona. 17th December to 6th January. Visit the Arena, not only will you be able to see an exhibition of Christmas cribs from around the world, outside there will be an Ice-skating rink, as well as the market stalls and concerts. For Epiphany, on the 6th January, enjoy a traditional bonfire and carnival parade.

Lake Garda. 3rd November to 6th January. A Christmas Village with events and exhibitions, the highlight is an underwater crib! There are ice-skating rinks at Badolino and Malcesine, and for the children, Garaland has special activities. On the 5th and 6th January, there are Epiphany celebrations all around the lake with bonfires, concerts and celebrations.

Of course New Years Eve is a significant time too. In Verona, the Arena is the place to celebrate, with a concert and spectacular fireworks to see in the New Year with style, and Epiphany, is when the witch Bifanna is burned, a Veronese tradition.

For something decidedly different to celebrate New Years Eve why not enjoy the skiing torch procession at Fiaccolata, or a snowshoe hike on a moonlight night and folk festa at Ciaspole.
